Bambara – Back Home (2018)

“Shadow On Everything, the third LP by Bambara and their first for Wharf Cat Records, represents a decisive step forward for the NYC-via-Georgia trio. Frontman Reid Bateh, drummer Blaze Bateh, and bassist William Brookshire have always been adept students of noise rock and post-punk, mining the work of bands like Swans and The Birthday Party to construct what NPR called their “beautifully dynamic nightmares.” Now, they’ve transcended their early influences to produce a Western Gothic concept album that sounds as big as the desert sky looming over its characters’ lives.”Source

“Zola Jesus’ Okovi: Additions LP offers a new angle on her 2017 album, Okovi. The collection pairs four previously unreleased songs from the Okovi sessions with four remixes by a diverse cast of artists. Johnny Jewel turns “Ash to Bone” into a late-night cinematic torch song…” sacredbonesrecords.com

“Guitarist Robert Quine has claimed that Painted Desert is his session, but it wasn’t released as such “because of legalities.” Ikue Mori, under whose name this album was released, views it more as a meeting between Quine and herself that was directed by producer John Zorn. Either way, Painted Desert is a stunning work of guitar and drum machine/sampler trios. Mori recorded her parts, which rely primarily on tom tom and cymbal sounds, and then gave the tapes to Quine and Marc Ribot, who improvised guitar parts…”Source

Colin Hinton – Felines (2018)

Colin

“On his debut full-length as a bandleader and composer, Hinton’s Glassbath channels the edgy jazz/rock of Jim Black’s AlasNoAxis, the vast sonic landscapes of post-rock pioneers such as Mogwai and Godspeed You! Black Emperor, the post-hardcore/indie-rock of Dallas’ Red Animal War, and the audacious experimental jazz of Anthony Braxton, Henry Threadgill, and Peter Brötzmann.
With the leader’s passionate and deeply musical drumming at its core, the group honors Hinton’s duel allegiance to both the Texas indie rock scene and New York’s forward-thinking jazz community. Angular pulses draw the listener in, before abrupt left turns into frenetic abstraction turn expectations upside down.

Imaginary People – Snapshot (2017)

Image

https://imaginarypeople.bandcamp.com/

“Hollow and haunting, Imaginary People’s sophomore full-length October Alice, is a macabre masterpiece. At times cacophonous, and other times melodic, the album explores some of the most morbid corners of the human mind and shines a light on their darkest crevices. Wistful guitar tones, guttural vocals, and commanding bass lines move throughout the desolate environment constructed by Imaginary People in Alice.”Source

The New Year – Snow (2017)

Snow

“Taken without context, Snow is a gorgeous collection of slow-burning, neatly groomed songs and perspectives, always introspective but never without joy. When viewed as another chapter in the ongoing lineage of the Kadane brothers, it takes on a deeper gravity. It becomes another privileged look into a world of sound so personal and deeply considered that it doesn’t matter if there are decades between albums; the things the songs have to say will always arrive at exactly the right moment.-All Music”Source

The Felice Brothers – Aerosol Ball (2016)

felice

“The Felice Brothers return with nine songs in their unique blend of folk, country, rock and soul. Uncut magazine has described the band as, “just glorious”. Life in the Dark was recorded in the garage on a farm in upstate New York, with no distractions and no outside influences.
So, it’s not surprising the band produced the album themselves. Highlights include, “Aerosol Ball,” and “Plunder.” The Felice Brothers will be playing select shows and festivals throughout the spring and summer, with a US Tour scheduled for the fall and UK/EU dates in the winter.” Source
