The Jayhawks – Miss Williams’ Guitar

This is one of my all-time favorites. For two reasons. First of all it’s a great song with Mark Olson and Gary Louris singing together in their special and wonderful way. But second and alot more personal, I remember my brother and I going to a ‘Giant Sand’ show sometime back in the early 90’s. It was the tour with Pappy Allen. In the middle of the whole thing Victoria Williams and big red stratocaster took the stage and she took all our young hearts. It was love at first sight. Since then the song about Miss Williams’ guitar gives me goose bumps and puts a smile on my face.

Pilot – Magic

I guess everybody’s got some songs they’re stuck with. Me, I’m chained to this one. As a young boy, growing up in a suburb town in Denmark, we had a drug addicted neighbor who used to invite me over, I was 10-11 years old, to listen to some music. It was Ten Years After, Deep Purple, Uriah Heep, stuff like that. But it was also this new Pilot record and he would play it loud, very loud, shouting “it’s only half the possible volume” (in danish: “det er kun halv styrke”) My childish ears were exploding and numb but I loved it and kept comming back. Now I just keep comming back to this stupid pop song…
